Incorporating Window Treatments in Room Decorating

Window Treatments Add Interest

Skyline® Gliding Window Panels

If you’re thinking about decorating or redecorating a room, you’re probably trying to figure out how to incorporate your windows and their coverings into your plan. At Georgia Blinds & Interiors here in Atlanta, our
will be happy to help you work it out. Meanwhile, here are some tips to help you frame your thinking.

  • Look at the space and decide what will be the focal point in a room, whether it’s the window, TV, fireplace, bookcase, piano, or picture grouping. The focal point is the magnet to group your furniture around.
  • Draw the room’s dimensions on graph paper, with one square scaling to one foot. Show where the walls, doors, and windows are on the graph paper, and note how far the window is from the floor.
  • Decide whether you want color on the window or on the wall. If the window is the focal point, you’ll likely want some color there. If it’s not, think about how you’ll want to add color to the wall, whether that’s through paint, wall hangings, or wallpaper. Keep these things in mind as you think about color: If your window treatments are neutral, you can change the color of paint easier and for far less money than changing the window treatments. Remember, when the sun comes through a colored window treatment, it will also affect the colors of all objects in the room.
  • Consider the type of window treatment you might like—honeycomb shades? Roman shades? Blinds? Shutters? Think about whether you’d like to add drapery panels or a valence—either can help soften your room or help tie the look together. Also consider the function of your window treatment—will it help diffuse light? Will it protect your furniture from harmful UV rays? Will it increase the privacy of the room?
  • Determine your budget for decorating the entire room. Then talk to a trained consultant at Georgia Blinds & Designs. We’ll be happy to help address all of the points you determined about the decoration of your room, and we can help you find the right window treatment that will fit in your budget.
