Which Do You See First, the Walls or the Windows?

Silhouette® Window Shadings

When you walk in to a room, your eye is typically drawn to the area where there is color. Whether it’s the window or the wall, that’s going to be the focal point of the room. Is your eye drawn where you want it to go in each of your rooms? If you’re interested in exploring color for your room, talk with one of the professional window treatment specialists at Atlanta’s Georgia Blinds & Interiors. We’ll be happy to help you determine what’s best.

To Start

Whether you use color on a wall or window, the different light throughout the day will make that color appear different. Typically, there are four times when the change is most noticeable.

  • The light feels warm in the early morning
  • The light will be cool at noon
  • With sunset and colors in the sky, the light takes on a warm feeling again in the evening
  • The darkness of night has us using artificial light, which presents its own challenges to color

Deciding Whether to Put Color on the Wall or Window

Pirouette® Window Shadings

If you put color on the window, that will become the focal point. If, however, you keep the frame white and the window treatment white, the walls and the accessories will be the focal point. Generally, it’s best to blend the window treatment with the frame, especially with the treatments that are there only to perform a function like controlling light and privacy. If you want to add a pop at the window, add a valance or contrasting window panels. Gold, orange, red-orange, red, and magenta have brown undertones and will blend into wood and make a space seem smaller. Black undertones such as purple, blue, indigo, green, and teal all enhance wood and visually expand space, making it look bigger. Yellow and lime green have white undertones and work well with either.
