Do you have a drab, dull room you’d like to liven up but you don’t know how? Are you afraid to choose color because it might be “wrong”? You’re not alone. At Georgia Blinds & Interiors here in Atlanta, many of our customers shy from going “too far” with color because they are intimidated by it. Luckily, color experts are able to help. And one inspiration you can draw from is the annual “Color of the Year” as chosen by the Pantone Color Institute. Read on to learn more about this year’s color and to get some ideas about how you might add it to your home.
Living Coral, PANTONE 16-1546
For 2019, the Color of the Year is PANTONE Living Coral, which has a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens. Effervescent, yet mellow, this color gives a sense of relief in a continually shifting environment. As Pantone notes, Living Coral “is evocative of how coral reefs provide shelter to a diverse kaleidoscope of color.”
How to Add Living Coral to Your Home
You can add this year’s color by itself or with some complementary hues. For example, you could add it to your walls, in new window coverings, in custom bedding, or even in trending appliances. Your complementary colors—such as seafoam or aqua—can add to the ocean theme; get a decorative throw pillow in seafoam and while you add a lovely vase in coral. Or find artwork that incorporates the colors so that your walls reflect that style. If you want a different theme than straight “sea,” check out Pantone’s suggestions on their site. Learn more. Just remember to be open—the possibilities are endless.

For the past 20 years, the Pantone Color of the Year has inspired manufacturers in industries such as home furnishings, window coverings, fashion, automotive, and more. Through things like trend forecasts and color psychology, the Pantone Color Institute helps global brands design products that call on the power and emotion of color. “Color is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities,” noted Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial PANTONE Living Coral hit a responsive chord.”
