Bold Color Trends Reflect Optimism in 2010
A bright outlook and sense of optimism is reflected in home décor colors this year. Neutrals may have been chic in 2009, but bolder, brighter colors are in this year. Here’s a Q&A on color trends with Pam Cole, GBI co-owner and design expert.
Q: Do you think the recession has impacted colors for home décor?
A: Yes, consumers yearn for cheerful colors that evoke optimistic feelings.
Q: What color trends do you see in 2010?
A: I’m seeing saturated, elegant colors like eggplant. Not necessarily
intense, but rich colors.
Q: What are some of the fresh, new looks you’re seeing this
year?
A: Fun looks use carnival colors in rich tones and jewel colors -- bold greens,
purples and reds. These vivid colors convey magical, energizing times and
transport you to New Orleans or Rio without leaving home.
Q: What other colors are prominent?
A: An enticing, stylish palate features energizing colors with fresh, clean
citrus hues of grapefruit, mandarin orange, lime, lemon and kiwi. These cheerful
colors translate into a new day.
Q: Are you seeing any neutrals?
A: Yes, earthbound taupes with a Western frontier style executed in subtle
patterns found in nature.
Q: How do you suggest using new colors?
A: Perking up décor, can range from a fresh, bright colors incorporated
in a room through new wall or window coverings – to adding accessories,
pillows or duvet covers.
